Puget Brass Academy

Puget Brass Academy is an opportunity for student brass and percussion musicians to learn about the British Brass Band tradition and deepen their understanding of instrument technique and performance in an inclusive and non-competitive community. Students will experience instrument-specific sectionals and group rehearsals culminating in a performance alongside Puget Brass at our annual Brass Bonanza event on March 8, 2025.

The Academy Band is organized and led by Erin Keeton-Howard and Elizabeth McDaniel. Erin is a Seattle-based composer, musician, and educator and Elizabeth is Puget Brass principal trombone and Managing Director.

Puget Brass Academy is open to brass and percussion students from 7th - 12th grade.

Registration opens on October 1, 2024 and closes on February 20, 2025.

Rehearsal and Performance Details:

  • Saturday March 1, 2025: 8:30am - 4pm, North Seattle College, group rehearsals, instrument-specific sectionals, vendors, and a solo/chamber concert by Puget Brass members (lunch provided)

  • Saturday March 8, 2025: 8:30am - 12pm, North Seattle College, Puget Brass Academy and Puget Brass combined rehearsal (lunch provided)

  • Saturday March 8, 2025: 2pm, North Seattle College, Brass Bonanza concert with Puget Brass Academy

Erin Keeton-Howard

Conductor

Erin Keeton-Howard is a Seattle-based musician and music educator who is passionate about bringing people together through music. Currently Erin is the Director of Bands at The Northwest School and Co-Founder/ Director of Formation Wind Band (Seattle's all-female wind band).
Erin graduated cum laude with a B.S. in Music Education from the University of Missouri and holds a M.A. in Music Education with emphasis in Conducting from the University of Washington. A St. Louis native, Erin fell in love with the PNW when she moved here in 2014 to attend the University of Washington. Erin resides in Mountlake Terrace with her wife Felicia and loveable pup, Edna Boone.

Elizabeth McDaniel

Managing Director

Born and raised in southern California, Elizabeth moved to Seattle to attend graduate school at University of Washington in 2014. Since graduating with her Masters degree in Trombone Performance, she has formed a successful private lessons studio, established a freelance career with local performing groups, and is teaching consistently with Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra and in both private and public schools. She now also serves as Managing Director of Puget Brass. In 2023, Elizabeth organized the debut of the Puget Brass Academy, a youth brass ensemble for students in the greater Seattle area. Elizabeth lives in Lynnwood with her husband, two kids, and dog Xena.
